FAQs and troubleshooting

Why don't I hear any sound?

Check the following:

  • You have not selected Play.
  • Speaker phone is turned off.
  • Volume is too low.
  • Earphones are not plugged in correctly.
  • Phone is on mute.

If none of these answers resolve your issue, dial *611 from your device, or call toll-free at 1-866-558-2273 to speak to a Client Care agent. You might be asked to use another phone while troubleshooting.

What does “DRM-Free” mean?

DRM (Digital Rights Management) is a technology that restricts the ability to move or copy content from one device or format to another. DRM-Free removes these restrictions, allowing greater flexibility, including the ability to use the content you purchased on more than one consumer electronic device.

Please note: All tracks purchased prior to February 10, 2010 are DRM music files.

Does my phone support DRM-Free music?

A full list of DRM-Free supported devices can be found here.

Can I use the music I purchase on my iPod or iPhone?

Yes. DRM-Free music purchased from TELUS can be used on a variety of devices, including Apple’s iPod and iPhone.

What happens if my download fails for any reason?

DRM-Free music purchased will remain active in your vault for 24 hours after purchase. Please retry by accessing the TELUS music shop on your device or TELUS media player. After 24 hours the track will no longer be available from your vault and will need to be re-purchased.

Will I be charged for a failed download?

Completed purchases are charged to your bill. Tracks are charged at the time of purchase, however these tracks are available for re-download in your vault for 24 hours afterwards at no extra cost.

If I receive an error message at the time of purchase, will I be charged?

No, only successful purchases will be charged to your bill.

Upgrading one or more of my DRM tracks to DRM-Free failed. What happened?

Due to rights restrictions, some tracks may not be eligible for DRM-Free upgrades.

Why can’t I upgrade my DRM albums to DRM-Free?

DRM-Free album upgrades are not currently available. Please check the TELUS music section of telusmobility.com for further updates.

Am I allowed to share my content with others?

Content purchased from the TELUS mobile music shop is for personal, non-commercial entertainment use only. You are not allowed to share or redistribute this content.

I have a TELUS music monthly subscription. Will my content now be DRM-Free?

Content downloaded as part of the TELUS music subscription will remain the same. It is a DRM-based subscription and the price per month is $20.

Why won’t a song or album play?

If attempts to play a song or album fail, shut your phone off and turn it on again. Re-launch the mobile music player and if it still does not play, call Client Care at *611 from your phone or smartphone, or call toll-free at 1-866-558-2273 to speak to a Client Care agent. You might be asked to use another phone while troubleshooting.

Why can't I download a song or album?

There could be a number of reasons:

  • You are outside the TELUS Mobility service area. View coverage maps.

Note: As a TELUS client, you can download music from the TELUS music shop when traveling to the US with applicable roaming charges.

  • The network might be temporarily down. Please try again in a few minutes.
  • You do not have a download capable phone.
  • You have been restricted from downloading music on your phone.

If none of these answers resolve your issue, dial *611 from your phone, or call toll-free at 1-866-558-2273 to speak to a Client Care agent. You might be asked to use another phone while troubleshooting.

What happens if I'm listening to music and my phone rings?

If a song or album is not included in your subscription, you will get a buy message or a 50-cent download fee message when you attempt to download it.

If I replace my phone, can I access the music I've downloaded to the old phone through my subscription?

Yes, as long as the new phone is music capable, then you can download your stored music to your new phone from your Vault or your SD card. When you transfer music to the new phone, you will need to update your music subscription license in order to continue to have access to your previously downloaded music on your new phone. The easiest and fastest way of updating your subscription license is through the TELUS media player.

If your new phone is not music capable, you may continue to download music to your PC using the TELUS media player. The music will be available for playback only on your PC until the time you acquire a music capable phone.

What happens to my songs and albums when I cancel my subscription?

If you cancel your subscription, you won't have access to any of the songs and albums you added unless you reactivate your subscription. All the music ever purchased through TELUS is stored in your Vault. As long as you're with TELUS and have an active subscription, you can get your songs back. However, any song you purchased (as opposed to adding it through your subscription) remains yours even if you cancel your subscription.
