Connectivity: Web browsing

New to web browsing? Start here.

With a few tips to help you, getting started with web browsing on your mobile phone has never been easier. Check out some of our frequently asked questions.

1. Is there a difference between web browsing the Internet (on computers) and the Mobile Internet?

Yes. Since handset screens are much smaller than computer monitors, more and more websites are adapting and optimizing their sites for mobile phones. Typically, this involves paring down the text and graphics displayed making it easier for you to navigate through the site using your handset. For this reason, a web site on your computer may not look the same as the web site on your mobile phone. While more web sites are being adapted for basic to cutting-edge mobile devices, the devices themselves are also rapidly improving. Newer devices often provide a better web browsing experience, offering HTML browsers with easy touch screen selection and navigation. All that said, your web browsing experience is only going to get better. If you had a bad web browsing experience, we suggest you give it another try.

2. Where do I begin browsing? How can I do an Internet search, find information or go directly to a website?

Our newly redesigned TELUS Home Page can help you get started. This page will guide you to popular and useful mobile sites and help you discover the value of having the Internet on your phone.

Start by pointing your phone’s browser to the TELUS Home Page. When you select your web or browser icon from your home screen, if this page does not load by default, select “Home Page (TELUS WAP Browser)” or “TELUS Home Page” from your Bookmarks list.

Three main areas of the TELUS Home Page can help find what you’re looking for quickly and easily:

  1. Search field: If you already know what you are looking for (e.g. website, business name or your favourite artist), enter a search term and select Search. A list of search results will quickly be displayed for you to select from.
  2. Highlights: This area pushes the latest updates on weather, news, sports and entertainment to your phone without needing you to browse to a specific site.
  3. Browsing categories: The six browsing categories contain links to get you to your favourite, popular sites and discover other great sites within each category.

Messaging: Links to popular sites for social networking, email, instant messaging, chat, dating, and photo sharing.
Quick Info: Links to quick information to help you stay updated and organized on the go. Read the news, do a 411 lookup, find an ATM or WiFi spot, hail a cab, check your flight status and check your bank balance – all from your phone.
Shop: Browse and download applications, ringtones, music tracks and games. Plus, get to the new TELUS video on demand to view a favourite TV show or video clip.
Sports: Links to the best sports sites so you never miss the score even when you’re busy on the go.
Music: Links to your popular music sites and your favourite artist sites for featured ringtones and music tracks.
Entertainment: Links to great sites for moving listings, entertainment, and gossip.
