1. What is a SIM Card and why do I need it?

A SIM Card is a small removable card that is inserted into the back of a phone. TELUS 3G+ devices require a SIM Card in order to function and access TELUS network services.


2. What are the benefits of using a SIM Card?

The TELUS SIM Card gives clients access to TELUS’ 3G+ network. SIM Cards allow clients to easily take their account information and service from one phone to another for immediate use.


3. How do I insert my SIM Card into my phone?

On most devices, open the back of the phone and remove the battery. Push the card into the SIM slot, which often has an image of the SIM Card. Ensure that the slanted corner is facing the right way and that the SIM Card is pushed all the way in.


4. Can I use a TELUS SIM Card in any phone?

A TELUS SIM Card can be used with any TELUS 3G+ device. It can also be used in some unlocked non TELUS devices (that uses HSPA technology). Check your device’s compatibility with our mobile network.


5. Can I buy a new mobile device and use the same SIM Card?

You can remove your SIM Card from your existing TELUS device and insert it into your new TELUS device. If you are using a non TELUS device (using HSPA technology), ensure that your new device is compatible with the TELUS network, is unlocked, and that you have the right rate plan.


6. Will my TELUS SIM Card work internationally?

TELUS SIM Cards allow TELUS 3G+ devices to roam internationally. Learn more about international roaming.


7. Where can I buy a TELUS SIM Card?

You can purchase a TELUS SIM Card online or at any TELUS store.


8. How do I activate my SIM Card?

You can activate your SIM Card online, at any TELUS store, or by calling Client Care


9. Are prepaid minutes included with the SIM Card?

Prepaid minutes are not included with the TELUS SIM Card. A SIM card is required to activate TELUS prepaid.


10. What can I save on my SIM Card?

Up to 40 text messages and up to 250 phonebook contacts.


11. What does "SIM card memory full" mean?

You have reached the card’s memory capacity and no additional information may be stored unless you free up memory by deleting saved SMS messages or address book entries.


12. How do I erase what I have stored on my SIM Card?

On most devices you can delete SMS or address book entries by selecting the item and then selecting delete in the device menu.


13. How can I protect the information on my SIM Card?

You can protect the information stored on your SIM by setting a password or ‘PIN’ that you must enter after you power up your phone. PIN options are typically found in your device menu under Settings > Security. See your device user guide for instructions.


14. What is a SIM PIN?

The SIM PIN is a password that you can set in order to protect the information stored on your SIM Card. By default it is turned off, and set to 1234. PIN options are typically found in your device menu under Settings > Security. See your device user guide for instructions.


15. What happens if my SIM Card is lost or stolen?

Call TELUS Client Care at 1-888-552-3333. or visit a TELUS store immediately to deactivate your lost or stolen SIM Card and prevent someone from using it.You will be responsible for all usage of the SIM card until you do so.. . You can then purchase a new SIM card online or at a TELUS store.


16. What do I do if my mobile device displays an error message such as; "SIM card rejected", "SIM card unaccepted", "SIM card error", or "SIM card unregistered"?

Ensure that your SIM card is inserted properly. If the error message persists, call TELUS Client Care at 1-888-552-3333 or visit a TELUS store.


17. How do I remove my SIM Card from my mobile device?

On most devices you can slide off the back panel, remove the battery, and then carefully slide or push the SIM card from the slot. Do not pry it out.


18. Can I give my SIM to a friend?

Yes, but the account will still be in your name, and you will continue to be responsible for all usage. You can transfer complete ownership of the account (subject to approved credit) by calling TELUS Client Care at 1-888-552-3333.


19. Can I use my SIM in a Smartphone?

Yes, by adding an appropriate data plan. You can choose an appropriate data plan online, by calling TELUS Client Care at 1-888-552-3333 or by visiting a TELUS store. Only voice and SMS services are enabled when you activate your TELUS prepaid SIM Card.


20. How do I de-activate my SIM Card?

Call TELUS Client Care at 1-888-552-3333. Please note that previously deactivated SIM cards can not be reactivated.


21. What is the best way to dispose of a SIM Card?

Ensure that you erase all private and sensitive SIM card data and contact us to deactivate it before disposing of your card in a regular recycling bin. If you are giving your TELUS SIM card to a friend, ensure that you contact TELUS Client Care at 1-888-552-3333 to transfer ownership (subject to approved credit). Until this transfer is complete, you are still obligated to pay for any SIM card activity.


22. What is an ICCID number?

An ICCID is a unique 19 digit number printed on the SIM Card.


23. When swapping SIM cards into other devices will voice and SMS work?

Yes, voice and SMS will work in all devices as long as the device supports it. For example, Internet Keys do not support voice, so you will not be able to make or receive calls.


24. I just swapped my SIM card into a BlackBerry and data is not working?

Both BlackBerries and Internet Keys require specific rate plans for data to work, when swapping devices to one of these devices, you need to ensure you have a BlackBerry plan for BlackBerry Smartphones and Mobile High Speed Plans for Internet Keys.
