Just follow these steps to make sure that your device will work on Canada’s largest 4G network.
If a device is not originally purchased from a registered TELUS distributor and/or is not locked to the TELUS network, it is a non-TELUS device. A non-TELUS device is not certified by TELUS. Non-TELUS devices may work on the TELUS network if compatible and unlocked.
If your device was purchased through a registered TELUS distributor, it is a TELUS certified HSPA device. If your TELUS device was acquired through other means, you can determine the status of your device by contacting Client Care.
Based on the technical specifications of your device, it may or may not be compatible with the TELUS network. Use the non-TELUS device (HSPA) compatibility check to determine whether or not your non TELUS device is technically compatible with the TELUS network.
Some services may be different or unavailable on your non-TELUS device (using HSPA technology).
If your device is compatible with the TELUS network and can be activated, voice and SMS should work in the same manner as a TELUS certified HSPA device. You may be able to self-configure data services on your non-TELUS device. TELUS does not have the ability to configure data services on your non-TELUS device for you.
TELUS can provide full support for device setup and voice and SMS on your device. For voice and SMS troubleshooting, please contact Client Care. TELUS cannot provide troubleshooting support for your device or data configuration. For device and data troubleshooting, please contact your device’s manufacturer, or the place of purchase.
Wireless providers “lock” their devices to only work with SIM cards registered to their network. Reversing this programming so that a device is able to work with any SIM card is considered “unlocking”.
If you purchased your device from another carrier, it is reasonable to assume that it is locked. If you are unsure of the device’s history, you can check if your device is unlocked by purchasing and activating a TELUS SIM Card and inserting it into the device in question. If your device is able to send and receive calls and text messages, it is unlocked. If it does not, the phone may be locked, not compatible with the TELUS 4G network, or the device may be defective.
Yes. A non-TELUS device needs to be unlocked and compatible with the TELUS network in order to be activated.
Currently, TELUS does not unlock devices. You may wish to research unlocking to find a service. Please keep in mind that altering the device by unlocking it may void your warranty.
Currently, TELUS does not sell non-TELUS devices.
