Drive Smart tips

Safety should be your first priority when driving. Never let your phone distract you.

Many provinces have made it illegal to drive while using a mobile device unless you are using it in hands-free and voice-activated mode. We offer hands-free accessories and other ways to help you drive smart.

Are you driving safely while using your mobile device? Here are some important safety tips.

  • Make your device work for you. Learn how to use its features to help you drive smart. Visit our online Learning Centre to understand how to use features such as Bluetooth, one-touch dialing, voice-activated commands, voicemail, and more.
  • Need more help? Book a free one-hour Learning Centre session or visit us at your nearest TELUS store.
  • Explore TELUS calling services that help you manage your calls and be smart when you're behind the wheel - such as Call Display and Voice Mail.
  • Have a passenger with you? Why not ask them to help you place important calls and read or send important messages.
  • Know your coverage area
  • Consider purchasing a Roadside Assistance plan so that help is only a phone call away.
  • Don't program 911 into your phone’s memory in order to prevent accidental emergency calls.
  • Put your phone in an accessory cradle where you can see and reach it without losing focus on driving. When possible, have a passenger answer, or let the call go to your voicemail.
  • If you must use a handeld device, please ensure that you’re vehicle is legally parked.
