International roaming

Keep in touch when traveling around the world with international roaming. Using your TELUS phone or TELUS World phone, you have access to service in up to 173 countries.

While roaming the world, enjoy world-class support with our international support line, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.


Rate overview

International roaming costs vary by country. For detailed information, consult our Coverage & travelling section.

Roaming minutes, including accessing your Voice Mail, are independent of your rate plan and are not applied towards your included or weekend minutes. It takes up to 90 days for roaming calls to appear on your bill.

Free local calling on your birthday is only available in Canada.


Get started

To use international roaming, you need these items:

A TELUS handset or TELUS World phone

In many countries, your TELUS phone will work. However in several countries, only the TELUS world phones have service: BlackBerry® Tour™, BlackBerry® Storm™, BlackBerry® 8830, HTC Snap™, HTC Touch Pro2™ or Motorola A840.

International roaming activated

You must activate international roaming on your phone before leaving on your trip. This is a onetime process and might require a credit check. See our detailed activation instructions.

A TELUS pay monthly rate plan

You need to be on a pay monthly plan, not on a prepaid plan. Review rate plans.

Coverage

You must be travelling in a country where TELUS has coverage. To determine whether your TELUS phone or TELUS World phone works in a specific country, consult our international coverage maps.


Get international roaming

You have to sign up for international roaming by contacting TELUS.

To get international roaming, do one of the following:

  • Log into your TELUS account and add a package in self-serve*. Register if you don't have an account.
  • Call 611 on your TELUS handset.
  • Visit an authorized TELUS store. Find a store.

*The services available in self-serve depend upon your rate plan and handset model. If you don't see a service online, call TELUS by dialing 611 on your handset.
