How to: Update your smartphone software

If your software version is not 7.0.7389.0, you are eligible for a software upgrade.

Keep your smartphone running efficiently by using the latest available software.

Before you update your smartphone, you need to know your current software version.

1. From the Home screen, tap the right arrow icon.
2. Tap Settings.
3. From the System tab, select About.
4. Tap more info.
5. If your OS version is 7.0.7389.0, you don't need an upgrade.
6. If you need to upgrade your software, follow the instructions below.

Before you begin

CAUTION: Installing a software update may delete your ringtones, contacts, pictures, messages, and other downloaded content. If you want to save this content, backup your smartphone with Zune software for Windows or Windows Phone 7 Connector for Mac.

Before you begin, you will need the following.

Windows

• A computer with Windows operating system and the following system requirements:
  • Windows XP (Service Pack 3 or higher), Windows Vista, or Windows 7.
  • At least 1 GB of RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit).
  • 1GHz or higher Pentium-compatible processor.
  • Administrator privileges on the computer for software installation.
  • Access to a high-speed internet connection.
  • A working USB port.
• A fully charged smartphone battery.
• The USB cable included with your smartphone at the time of purchase.
• Zune software installed on your computer. Free Zune PC software is available at http://www.zune.net/setup

Mac OS X

• A computer with Mac OS X 10.6.6 operating system or higher and the following system requirements:
  • Access to a high-speed internet connection.
  • A working USB port.
• A fully charged smartphone battery.
• The USB cable included with your smartphone at the time of purchase.
• Windows Phone 7 Connector software installed on your computer. Windows Phone 7 Connector software is available at the Mac App Store.

NOTE: You will not be able to place or receive calls during the software installation procedure.

Install the software update on your smartphone

Windows

There are two software updates available for your smartphone. To install both updates, do the following.

1. Connect your smartphone to your computer with the USB cable provided in the box.
2. Zune automatically launches. If it doesn't, start it manually.
3. From Zune, click Update Now.
4. When the software update is complete, disconnect your smartphone from your computer.
5. Reconnect your smartphone to your computer.
6. Zune automatically launches. If it doesn't, start it manually.
7. From Zune, click Update Now to install the second software update.

The software updates are installed on your smartphone.

Mac OS X

There are two software updates available for your smartphone. To install both updates, do the following.

1. Connect your smartphone to your computer with the USB cable provided in the box.
2. Windows Phone 7 Connector automatically launches. If it doesn't, start it manually.
3. In the left navigation pane, click the device name.
4. Click Install Updates.
5. When the software update is complete, disconnect your smartphone from your computer.
6. Reconnect your smartphone to your computer.
7. Windows Phone 7 Connector automatically launches. If it doesn't, start it manually.
8. In the left navigation pane, click the device name.
9. Click Install Updates to install the second software update.

The software updates are installed on your smartphone.
