Using the Microbrowser on the Sanyo SCP 4000 series (4000/4500)

Please remember our Web services are available only in the digital coverage area.

Most phones sold after August 2000 are already properly configured for Pocket Web Service. Some phones need additional information programmed in, by the user, to be fully functional.

To check if you’re ready to go, access the browser on your phone as shown below. If you get a message “Address Missing”, you’ll need to follow the accompanying instructions.

Using the Browser for the First Time

Step 1 From the main menu, scroll down to minibrowser and press OK
Step 2

A message will appear: "Security is not enabled. Press OK to select YES and create a new unique security key for your phone.

This will take several minutes, do not turn off your phone.

Step 3 When display reads "Welcome to the UP.Browser", press OK. You now have your personal homepage.

Text Entry Modes

To enable clients to easily enter text information into their phone, the microbrowser has several different text entry modes. When a given text mode is selected, it dictates what type of information the client can quickly enter.

The following are the text entry modes available on all TELUS Mobility microbrowser phones:

Mode soft key Symbol Purpose

Alphabetic characters – Lower case

alpha
(abc)

Enter text in lower case. To enter the word "apple" type: 27755533

Alphabetic characters – Upper case

ALPHA (ABC)

Enter text in upper case. To enter the word "APPLE" type: 27755533

Numeric characters

NUM

Enter numbers.

Symbols 1

SYM1

Enter symbols – Find the desired symbol and select the associated key.

Symbols 2

SYM2

Enter symbols – Find the desired symbol and select the associated key.

Symbols 3

SYM3

Enter symbols – Find the desired symbol and select the associated key.

Smart Mode
– Tegic T9®

SMART or

WORD

This mode is intended to speed-up text entry. The client should enter text characters in order, but click the appropriate key only once per letter. For example, the word "apple" would be entered by pressing 27753 (that is, only one keypress per letter of the word). Each additional text character added causes Tegic to narrow the list of possible words, and it displays the most likely selection.

Note: On occasion, you may want to enter a mix of upper- and lower-case text. Each phone supports switching from lower to upper case in a different fashion.

Resetting the Cache

Cache files are designed to help load Web pages quicker. Each time you open a Web page, your Microbrowser creates a cache file (a temporary copy) of the page's text and graphics.

It is good to periodically reset your cache so that the links and pages you see will always be the latest version. Resetting the cache can also help if you are experiencing a problem with a page you can normally view.

To reset your cache, scroll right to Help, then press OK , then select "Restart" (option number 5).
