Using Voice Recognition on the Kyocera KE424C

Voice recognition allows you to make and answer calls by speaking commands into the phone's microphone.

NOTE: You cannot use voice recognition to end a call; you must press .

Setting Up Voice Dialing

To make or receive calls using voice recognition (voice dialing), contacts must be saved and have associated voice tags.

Creating a Voice Tag for a Contacts

Step 1

From the Contacts menu, press the down to scroll to 'Add Voice Dial' and press .

Step 2

Follow the voice prompts to record a name for the contact.

Step 3

Highlight an option:

  • Add new - Save a new contact to go with the voice tag
  • Add to existing - Add the voice tag to a saved contact

Follow the prompts to add the Voice Dial to your contact.

Viewing Entries with Voice Tags

Step 1

From the Contacts menu, press the down to scroll to 'Voice Dial List' and press .

A list of all contacts with assigned voice tags appears.

Editing a Voice Tag

Step 1

From the Contacts menu, press the down to scroll to 'Voice Dial List' and press .

Step 2

Using the nav key, highlight the contact you want to edit, and press to select it.

Step 3

Using the nav key, highlight the phone number and press .

Step 3

From the menu choose either:

  • Add Voice Dial
  • Edit Voice Dial
  • Erase Voice Dial

Follow the prompts to edit the voice tag.

Calling Using Voice Tags

Step 1

From the standby screen, press . The phone responds: "Say a name."

Step 2

Say the name of the person you wish to call.

Step 3

If the name you said matches a contact in the Voice Dial List, the phone responds: "Calling (Name)."

Remain silent to make the call, or say "No" to cancel.

Step 4

If the phone finds multiple voice tags that sound like the name you said, you will be asked to verify which name you want to call. Say "Yes" when you hear the correct name. Say "No" when you hear an incorrect name.

Step 5

When you are finished, press . You cannot end the call with a voice command.

Using Voice Features with Accessories

You can use voice commands only if your phone is connected to an accessory such as a hands-free car kit or headset.

Setting the Phone to Wake Up

Step 1

From the Settings menu, press the down to scroll to 'Voice Services' and press .

Step 2

Press the down to 'Voice Wake-Up' and press .

Step 3

Press the down to highlight With ext. pwr and press .

Waking Up the Phone

Step 1

Say "Wake up" and listen for a tone.

Step 2

Say "Wake up" again until you hear two tones.

NOTE: If the phone does not recognize your "Wake up" command, see Training Voice Recognition. Voice Wake-Up does not work with Keyguard active. Disable the Keyguard before using this function.

Setting Phone to Auto-Answer

Step 1

From the Settings menu, press the down to scroll to 'Accessories' and press .

Step 2

Press the down to 'Auto-Answer' and press .

Step 3

Press the down to highlight After 5 secs and press .

Setting Phone to Answer Using Voice Commands

Step 1

Disable the Auto-Answer feature.

Step 2

Ensure the phone is not in Silence All Mode.

Step 3

From the Settings menu, press the down to scroll to 'Voice Services' and press .

Step 4

Press the down to 'Voice Answer' and press .

Step 5

Press the down to highlight Enabled and press .

Answering an Incoming Call

Step 1

When you receive an incoming call, the phone responds with either:

  • 'Incoming call, answer?'
  • 'Incoming roam call, answer?'
  • 'Incoming call from (Name), answer?'

Step 2

Say " Yes" and press any key except to answer the call.

Ignoring an Incoming Call

Step 1

Say " No" and press to silence the alert.

Step 2

Remain silent. The voice alert repeats twice and the phone rings once, then returns to the standby screen.

Training Voice Recognition

If your phone is having trouble recognizing your voice, you can train it with the commands "Yes," "No," and "Wake up."

Step 1

From the Settings menu, press the down to scroll to 'Voice Services' and press .

Step 2

From the Voice Services menu, press the down to scroll to 'Voice Training' and press .

Step 3

Read the message and press .

Step 4

Select Train All and press .

Step 5

Follow the prompts for each word until training is complete.
