Ottawa, ON, August 22, 2005 - Coinciding with the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police's 100th Annual Conference, TELUS Mobility today announced the exclusive Canadian availability of a Satellite-equipped Radio Cell Sites On Light Truck (SATCOLT) system, designed for use by Public Safety professionals to improve communications in emergency situations whenever and wherever emergency radio coverage is required. The announcement further underlines TELUS Mobility's position as the leading wireless provider of Mission Critical Communications tools for the first responder community. "TELUS Mobility's mobile SATCOLT system is rapidly deployable and fully self-sufficient, enabling emergency responders to effectively communicate during crisis situations. SATCOLTs create wide area network coverage that permits interoperable voice and - using our Multi-Network Data Access Solution - encrypted data communications between first responders across Canada and the United States," said Colin Belshaw, TELUS Mobility's Director of Corporate Development. SATCOLTs can be deployed anywhere across Canada to provide significant call capacity and coverage. Once on-site, they can operate continuously on a fully self-contained basis for up to seven days without refuelling, offering additional reliability even in remote areas. "With SATCOLT and interoperable voice communications through rapid-deploy radios, TELUS Mobility can assist first responders in responding quickly and effectively to unpredictable emergencies, both natural and manmade," said Belshaw. TELUS Mobility's SATCOLT program has already won the support of the Durham Regional Police Service. "We are pleased to partner with TELUS Mobility to have SATCOLT technology available to us in the event of a major emergency," says Durham Regional Police Chief Kevin McAlpine. "We were all reminded of the inherent importance of radio and cellular communication in the blackout in August of 2003. This new technology provides us with additional mobile communications options in the event of a similar emergency." TELUS Mobility's suite of Mission Critical communications solutions also includes an emergency priority-equipped radio inventory, in-building systems and mobile Cells on Wheels (COWs) that enable public safety and emergency response and recovery teams to communicate by radio right across North America. TELUS Mobility will be on hand at the Canadian Association of Chiefs
of Police's 100th Annual Conference until August 24 in at the Ottawa Congress
Centre to showcase its Mission Critical line up, including the SATCOLT
system.
