HTC P4000 Update

1. Introduction

The following steps will assist you in upgrading your HTC P4000 with version Windows Mobile 5 (1.22.671.3) to version Windows Mobile 6 (2.13.661.2) for Microsoft Windows 2000 and XP.

Warning!!!!!!

By updating your software you will lose all data including, but not limited to: contacts, calendar events, tasks, personal files, 3rd party applications and e - mails that is currently saved on your HTC P4000.

It is recommended that you verify all third party applications that are currently installed on your P4000 are compatible with Windows Mobile 6 before proceeding with the update.

Back up all data via ActiveSync before beginning the update.

2. Items Required

The following are items which are needed before proceeding with the update. 3. Prerequisites

Ensure that the following steps are completed before proceeding with the update:
  • Backup all data on your P4000
  • Disable standby and hibernation mode on your computer
  • Ensure that that the battery is fully charge
  • Microsoft ActiveSync 4.5 or greater downloaded and installed
4. Steps for upgrading the HTC P4000
  1. Backup all data on your P4000 and ensure that you have a fully charged battery. This update will ERASE all data on your handset.

    Warning!!!!!!

    Ensure that the USB cable is not removed during the update process as this could render your P4000 inoperable.

  2. Connect your P4000 to your PC via the USB cable which was provided in box.



  3. ActiveSync will launch and your P4000 will show that your device is connected and synchronized. (See the figure above) If ActiveSync is unable to connect and synchronize your device, remove and reattach your P4000.
  4. Download the Software update tool from here: http://member.america.htc.com/download/Software/Telus_HTC_P4000_WM6_07252007.exe. Save this to your desktop, or to a location that you can access later.

  5. Locate the software update tool (Telus_HTC_P4000_WM6_07232007.exe), and double click the executable file.



  6. The installation wizard will pop up, click “Next”. It may take a few minutes before the next screen appears.



  7. Review the steps and check the “I understand the caution…….” and then click “Next”.



  8. Verify that the 4 items have been completed and then check “I completed the steps indicated above” and click “Next”.



  9. Wait while the installation program verifies the information on your P4000.



  10. Click “Update”.



  11. Verify that the displayed image version is matches with the screenshot above and click “Next”.



  12. Read the following information and click “Next”.



  13. The update will take approximately 10 minutes. During the update do not disconnect the USB cable or attempt to interrupt the process.



  14. Congratulations, your device has now been successfully updated. Click “Finish”. If the process was unsuccessful, restart your computer and repeat the update process from step #1.

  15. After the update your phone will need to be re-programmed. Program your phone via OTASP:
    • In the phone menu, dial *22803 and click SEND
    • Select your language
    • Press 1 to program your phone
    • P4000 will now restart
    Note: OTASP must be within digital coverage, contact Client Care at *611 if OTASP fails.

  16. The following step is optional. You can update your roaming list to include the most up to date signals currently used by TELUS. Update your roaming list via OTASP:
    • In the phone menu, dial *22803 and click SEND
    • Select your language
    • Press 2 to update your roaming list

  17. Ensure that data settings are correct by launching the Pocket Internet Explorer browser. Also remember to configure your e-mail settings by downloading TELUS mobile email.
