A TELUS Mobility Hotspot is any location that offers public high speed
wireless Internet access. TELUS Mobility Hotspot service provides you
with a high-speed wireless connection to the Internet using Wi-Fi (802.11b)
technology, giving you speeds comparable to the high-speed connection
in your home. A TELUS Mobility Hotspot consists of one or more Wi-Fi certified
access points (or transceivers) connected to a high-speed wired Internet
connection.
How fast is the connection in a TELUS Mobility Hotspot?
TELUS Mobility Hotspot service enables you to access the Internet at speeds
comparable to the high-speed connection in your home using a Wi-Fi enabled
laptop.
To add Hotspot services to your TELUS Mobility invoice you must already
have a post-paid Mike or PCS voice or data plan with TELUS Mobility. You
can add the Hotspot feature at your TELUS dealer or TELUS store, at mytelusmobility.com
or by phone (1-888-253-4937). To purchase the subscription through mytelusmobility.com,
simply create a profile or login to your existing profile and then follow
instructions to add the feature with the e-Care tool. Your mytelusmobility.com
username and password beomces your Hotspot username and password.
Pay Per Use options are also available. When you are in a TELUS Mobility
Hotspot, find the area where service is available (hint: look for the
poster with the Hotspot logo). When you are in the service area, simply
turn on your laptop and ensure your Wi-Fi network card is turned on. Launch
your web brwoser and you will be directed to the Hotspot login page which
will guide you through the registration and Pay Per Use purchase process.
Once you have created a user profile and purchased a Pay Per Use option,
you can use your username and password to login to the service when you
return to a Hotspot. If you need more time, simply top-up your account
with the time you need. You can top-up your
account at any Hotspot or by visiting mytelusmobility.com.
When you create your profile and purchase a rate plan, all of your billing
and personal information is secure because TELUS Mobility requires that
your web browser has 128-bit encryption. Once you're connected to the
public Internet, like any Internet connection, the TELUS Mobility Hotspot
service does not provide inherent security. TELUS Mobility recommends
that you adopt security measures such as VPNs (virtual private networks)
to ensure privacy and security. TELUS Mobility Hotspots are compatible
with most industry standard VPN solutions that utilize IPsec, PPTP, or
L2TP. We also recommend that you take appropriate steps to secure your
computer using passwords and personal firewall software.
TELUS Mobility Hotspot service is based on 802.11b wireless network technology.
The range of coverage of 802.11b technology is generally 300 feet from
any access point. Actual performance will be based on the sensitivity
of your Wi-Fi network card. Certain sites may employ multiple access points
to expand coverage beyond this limit.
How much does the TELUS Mobility Hotspot service cost?
TELUS Mobility Hotspot service offers numerous Pay Per Use and Subscription

Yes, all of your billing and personal information is secure because TELUS
Mobility requires that your web browser has 128-bit encryption- the same
as major banks! This is the industry standard in Web security and is used
primarily for transmitting sensitive information over the Internet. When
you have a secure connection between your browser and a website, no one
else can access the data that you send across the connection.
Occasionally, your browser might display a security alert to notify you
that you are entering or leaving a secure connection. These alerts tell
you when TELUS Mobility is taking precautions to keep the information
you supply (such as your password and billing information) secure while
it travels from your computer to our server. This is normal and you can
choose to continue in both cases.
For more information about how TELUS Mobility keeps your personal information
private, please refer to TELUS Mobility's privacy
statement.
Promotional codes provide free trial access to TELUS Mobility Hotspot service.

other promotional codes may be valid at any TELUS Mobility Hotspot. Promotional
Codes must be accompanied by a unique access code (PIN) for service.

at any valid Hotspot. To activate a promotional code, create a Hotspot

I'm sitting in a Hotspot and my VPN connection keeps dropping.
Why is that?
Hotspots are compatible with most VPN clients that use industry standard
VPN protocols such as IPSec, PPTP, and L2TP. If you're using an industry
standard VPN client and you're connection keeps dropping, try the following
steps:
Ensure your proxy settings are set to off
Open your browser, select your wireless carrier, login, and connect
to the Internet
Start your VPN client and immediately turn your proxy settings on
If your VPN connections keeps dropping and your company does not use a proxy
server, please try using webmail to access your company email.
While in a Hotspot, I can get my VPN to access my e-mail
and internal company information but cannot surf the Internet. Is there
anything I can do?
If you are experiencing this problem, it is often the result of a corporate
policy to minimize security risks. Please speak to your IT department representatives
about your current configuration.
When using a VPN, why does the status window display an
error message?
Most VPN's will block all traffic not going through it. In this case it
is doing just that. Fortunately this will only affect the status window
display. The service should still work fine.
How do I log out to ensure my VPN session is properly terminated?
When logging out, ensure your VPN session is terminated or closed, prior
to clicking on the log-out button. This will ensure proper closing of

Provider does not provide remote SMTP services, it is recommended that
you use either Webmail or VPN to establish a secure connection to your
email server.

applications may not work in a Hotspot environment as they do on a corporate
